Properties for Sale in Westbury Park

Popular local artist Jenny Urquhart shares her experience of living in the area.

Westbury Park is a leafy and highly sought-after suburb of Bristol, known for its attractive Victorian architecture, independent shops and strong sense of community. As a long-term resident, I’ve always loved how living in Westbury Park offers the best of both worlds – a friendly neighbourhood feel with easy access into the city.

Located within the BS6 postcode, Westbury Park sits between Whiteladies Road, Henleaze and St Andrews, making it an extremely popular choice for families, professionals and downsizers alike.

About Westbury Park

Westbury Park is characterised by wide, tree-lined streets, well-kept period homes and a welcoming community atmosphere. The area is predominantly residential, with a mix of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, larger semi-detached houses and converted flats.

One of the things I value most about living in Westbury Park is how close everything is. Whiteladies Road, Henleaze High Street and Gloucester Road are all within easy reach, offering a fantastic mix of independent cafés, shops and restaurants.

Property in Westbury Park

Property in Westbury Park is predominantly made up of Victorian and Edwardian terraced houses, along with larger semi-detached homes and a selection of purpose-built and converted flats. Many of the homes retain period features and generous proportions, which is part of what makes the area so attractive.

From my experience, homes in Westbury Park are particularly popular with families and professionals looking for character properties close to good schools and green space, while still being well connected to central Bristol.

Schools in Westbury Park

Westbury Park is well known locally for its access to a range of highly regarded primary and secondary schools. This has always been one of the main reasons families are drawn to the area. There are several popular primary schools within walking distance, and secondary options such as Redland Green School and Bristol Free School are also close by.

Having good schools nearby is a huge advantage and one of the reasons many people choose to settle in Westbury Park long term.

Parks & Green Spaces

One of the greatest benefits of living in Westbury Park is the access to green space. St Andrew’s Park is just a short walk away and is a real hub for families, dog walkers and anyone wanting a bit of fresh air. The 442 acres of Durdham Downs are also right on the doorstep, next to the Avon Gorge.

Whilst I don’t have a very big garden myself, having the Downs so close has always meant my children had a good run around and a place to play. It’s also home to the Saturday Downs League, a unique football league where all matches are played on the same set of pitches within the Downs.

Shops, Cafés & Local Amenities

Westbury Park is brilliantly placed for everyday life. Whiteladies Road, Henleaze High Street and Gloucester Road all offer a wide choice of independent cafés, bakeries, delis, pubs and restaurants. Whether it’s a morning coffee, a quick lunch or an evening out, there’s always somewhere nearby to go.

There are also local convenience stores, gyms and health facilities close by, which makes day-to-day living in Westbury Park very easy.

Community & Local Life

There is a strong sense of community in Westbury Park, with locally organised events taking place all year round. These include street festivals, play street days and local markets, which really help bring people together.

The Downs is a well-used green space and hosts many music events, fun fairs and food festivals. One of my favourite local events to take part in is the North Bristol Arts Fair. Over 100 artists exhibit their work in studios and group venues, and it’s a great way to explore the area and do some early Christmas shopping in late November.

Transport & Commuting

Westbury Park is very well positioned for getting around Bristol. There are regular bus services into the city centre, and Whiteladies Road provides a direct route into Clifton and central Bristol. For those travelling further afield, the M32 and M5 are both easily accessible.

Many residents also choose to cycle, and it’s an easy ride into the city or up towards the Downs and Clifton.

Who Lives in Westbury Park?

From my experience, Westbury Park attracts a real mix of people. There are lots of families, particularly drawn by the schools and parks, as well as professionals working in the city, hospitals and universities. There are also downsizers who want to stay in a sociable, well-connected area, and creatives who enjoy the character and community feel.

It’s this mix that gives Westbury Park such a balanced and friendly atmosphere.

Why I Love Living in Westbury Park

For me, Westbury Park offers a lifestyle that is hard to beat. It has beautiful period homes, fantastic green spaces, a strong community and easy access to some of Bristol’s best high streets. It feels like a proper neighbourhood, while still being close to everything the city has to offer.
