About Bishopston
Bishopston has been the backdrop to much of my life and is a place I’m proud to call home. It’s a vibrant, close-knit area with a strong community feel and a wonderful mix of people. The streets are lined with attractive period homes, and there’s always something going on locally.
At the heart of Bishopston is Gloucester Road – famed for being one of Europe’s longest stretches of independent shops. It gives the area its unique character and creates a real buzz, with people constantly coming and going, meeting friends and supporting local businesses.

Gloucester Road & Independent Businesses
There’s not much you can’t find on Gloucester Road. From fresh fruit and vegetables, artisan bread and great coffee, to independent bookshops, galleries and homeware stores, it really does have everything. If you can’t find something here, it probably doesn’t exist.
As the owner of Room212, I love being part of such a creative and supportive independent business community. It’s a haven for foodies, art lovers and eco-conscious shoppers, and the ideal place to wander, browse and soak up the atmosphere.
In recent years, I’ve also noticed and warmly welcomed a more multicultural feel to the neighbourhood, which better reflects Bristol’s diversity and adds even more character to Bishopston.

Parks & Green Spaces
We’re lucky to have some beautiful green spaces nearby. My favourite dog-walking spots are St Andrews Park and Horfield Common, both of which have lovely cafés and play areas for little ones.
These spaces are well used by families, dog owners and anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors, and they play a big part in everyday life in Bishopston.
⸻
Community & Local Life
Bishopston really buzzes with community activity. There are gyms, yoga studios and fitness classes in local halls, as well as groups for everything from tai chi and synchronised swimming to choirs and the WI.
One of my favourite events is the North Bristol Art Trail, held on the last weekend of November, when homes and studios across the area open their doors to showcase local artists. It’s a wonderful celebration of creativity and community.
