Family Butchers Hen & Boar are a familiar sight on Henleaze High Street. Owners Nick and Lucy share their enthusiasm for the area.
‘Henleaze is a popular largely residential area, with some beautiful Edwardian properties particularly near the main High Street. The High Street itself is a perfect example of independents working side by side – together you can pick up everything you need in one stretch – fresh bread and deli produce from Chandos, fresh fruit and veg from Lloyds greengrocers, meat from ourselves, plus flowers, gifts, all of your seasonal garden needs from The Garden Shop, the Post Office, DIY essentials from Henleaze Hardware Shop, a local chemist, The Bank Fitness and local cafés- it’s a genuine one-stop shop for the community, all within easy walking distance. Reliable bus routes connect Henleaze to the city centre, and it’s well linked by road too.
The Downs are nearby for walks, cycling and play, while Henleaze Lake is a unique hidden gem for seasonal wild swimming and there are family-friendly parks and play areas nearby.
Henleaze has a strong community feel, supported by the Henleaze Society, local charities, and the community centre. There are book clubs, yoga and art workshops, school and church fairs, and plenty of social events. The High Street itself acts as a meeting place, where independents play a key role in keeping the neighbourhood vibrant and welcoming. The annual Henleaze Christmas Lights switch-on and festive market are a much-loved highlight that brings residents and local businesses together.
Locals are passionate about supporting independents, and that community spirit makes Henleaze a special place to live, work and shop”.
